Internet Play
NOTE: The information down below is OUTDATED and kept for historic reference only! Kali (http://www.kali.net) - is the world's largest Internet gaming network enabling Internet play of the most popular multiplayer games for over 170,000 players, on more than 600 servers in 65 countries. The most popular games currently on Kali are: Age of Empires, Jedi Knight, Warcraft 2, Descent 1 & 2, Command & Conquer, Diablo, Doom 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Links LS, Mechwarrior 2, Mercenaries, Red Alert and many more... All software has a 15 minute time limit until you register, and registration permits unlimited access to the Kali system; no need to watch the clock and worry about charges ringing up on a credit card in the middle of a firefight. You just pay for your Internet access, and a one time fee of $20 to Kali. The requirements aren't high, but you will need at least a 486/50 Mhz IBM-compatible computer with a 14.4 Kbps modem or faster with a true 32-bit PPP Internet connection. A 28.8 modem is recommended. Kahn (http://www.kahncentral.net) - is a network driver that allows people to play games on the Internet that are normally limited to local networks. Kahn sets up a virtual IPX network that emulates local networks and allows nearly any IPX-compatible game to be played over it. Each player connects to a Kahn server, and can then chat and play with the other people on the server. Kahn supports a wide variety of IPX games.Kahn is extremely easy to get installed and use. You'll be up and running in no time at all. Data Compression and Frame Optimization: These features reduce network bandwidth usage by up to 40%, providing for smoother network game play. Smart Broadcast Handling: The Kahn server has support for subnetting groups of players, isolating them from broadcast packets from other players that may reduce bandwidth and game performance. Full Featured Chat Client: A chat system is provided for meeting other players online. Freely Available Kahn Server: The Kahn Server is freely available for download and use on your own system. There are no usage fees or legal documents to sign. One-Time Registration Fee: Kahn does not have monthly charges associated with it like many other Internet gaming services do. Ten (http://www.ten.net) - The Total Entertainment Network (a.k.a. TEN) is an Internet entertainment service providing quality content and high action to gamers across the United States and Canada. We're here to show you a good time. But, it's you and the other TEN members that make it fun. We can't do it alone. With your PC, a high-speed modem, the TEN software and one or more of the games we have online, you can jump aboard immediately. TEN allows you to use your own Internet Service Provider (ISP) to connect to our service, or use one of our local access numbers and let TEN do the work (for a nominal fee, of course). In addition to games, we have player rankings, Web access, e-mail, and original game-related content. All you have to do is download our software and set up the games you want to play and you'll be right in the thick of the whole sick mess. (In some cases you will need to purchase the retail version of the game in addition to downloading the TEN software). With the release of our new Java-based TEN 2.0 (Preview Release 1), we even allow you to play games without ever leaving your Web browser! You'll need Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape Communicator 4.0, but if you've got those, you can jump right in and play either Shadow Warrior shareware or Total Annihilation. All this from the press of a button! Right now, TEN is up and running with tens of thousands of active members. We support a number of hit multiplayer games with plenty more to come. TEN is devoted to providing you with the ultimate experience in multiplayer online gaming now and in the future. Check here to see what games we support. Like most of the best things in life, TEN won't always be free. But it is pretty damn reasonable. TEN has a number of rate plan options—an hourly rate plan for the budget-conscious, a flat rate plan for monthly members, and a bulk rate plan which provides a discount for 3 months of service! Here's the dope: starting at 9.95 a month. MPlayer (http://www.mplayer.com) - is a very fast and free way to play all your favorite games over the internet like Red Alert, Quake, Duke 3D and Hexen. All you have to do is download their software and your set. There is a premium membership offered at a cost of 29.95 a month that gives you some extra things like a ladder ranking system and the ability to play new releases earlier than the rest of us. Why pay money when you can play on M-player and use Cases Ladder for the rankings. In order to play Red Alert on Mplayer, you MUST have a premium membership. A premium membership is $29.95 per year. Westwood Online (http://www.westwood.com) - With Westwood Studios' WESTWOOD CHAT, you can meet others and talk with anyone on the planet in real time! WESTWOOD CHAT also makes it easy to find others for multi-player games like MONOPOLY CD-ROM, COMMAND & CONQUER, and COMMAND & CONQUER RED ALERT. A big plus is that it's TOTALLY FREE! All you need to do is own a copy of Red Alert, C&C or Monopoly and download there software and your set. |
